The man who traveled the world on foot with his dog

Tom Tasich from New Jersey set a new milestone with his companion dog. Tom traveled around the world on foot with his dog Savannah. Tom became the 10th person to do so, and Savannah was the first dog to circumnavigate the globe on foot.

On April 2, 2015, before Tom turned 26, he began his journey around the world on foot. Tom had estimated that the trip would take 5 and a half years, but it took 7 years. The trip was delayed for several months due to Tom’s illness and the covid epidemic.

Tom first went to Panama from New Jersey. At first, he went alone. Later, in need of a companion, she adopted Savannach, a dog from an animal shelter in Texas. Tom went with Savanatch from Panama to the Darien Gap region between North and South America.

Tom and Savannach returned to Seattle in August 2021 after trekking through the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan. Through it, he returned to his home in New Jersey. Tom and Savannach have traveled on foot to 6 continents and 38 countries. They camped at night.

After Tom’s best friend Ann Mary died in a watercraft accident at the age of 17, he got the idea to go on this hike. Because someone much better than him had died, he realized that he too could die at any moment. He wanted meaningful moments in his life before he died. So Tom decided to travel and have some adventures.

After reading about Stephen Newman, who holds the Guinness World Record for being the first person to circumnavigate the globe on foot, Tom decided to take on the challenge.
